Subsidized Housing for Seniors in PEI

The information below has been quoted directly from the PEI Seniors Guide found at http://www.gov.pe.ca - page 74.

"Seniors Housing - The federal and provincial governments provide funding for seniors’ public housing projects. There are senior citizens’ public housing units in 34 communities across PEI. A Garden Suite is a portable one-bedroom unit that can be moved to the property of a family member. The property must be zoned to permit the installation of the unit. People aged 60 and those who are 55 and older who have a disability are eligible for subsidized seniors’ housing and garden suites. Tenants pay 25% of their income in rent. Tenants are selected based on need. A rating system is used to find out which applicants have the greatest need. When assessing need, staff considers a person’s income, assets, health, age, and present housing situation.
